Business Name Numerology — A Guide for Consultants

How to calculate a company's Expression number, align it with the founder's chart and present findings.

Business clients bring a different set of questions from personal clients. They want to know whether a company name supports the venture, how it sits with the founder's chart and what to do when there are several partners. This guide gives you a clear, repeatable method for business name numerology, with a fully worked example.

Which name is the company number?

Before calculating anything, settle which version of the name you are analysing. A single business can carry several:

  • Trading name: the brand customers see, such as "Banyan Works".
  • Legal name: the registered entity, such as "Banyan Works Private Limited".
  • Abbreviated legal name: "Banyan Works Pvt Ltd" on invoices and letterheads.
  • Regional forms: "Banyan Works LLC" for an entity registered abroad.

Practitioners disagree on which to treat as primary. Some argue the trading name carries the public energy. Others argue the registered name is the "birth name" of the company. Many calculate both.

Our advice is simple: choose one, document the choice in your report and apply it consistently. If you calculate both, label each clearly. A client who later sees a different number on another consultant's report should be able to see exactly why.

Worked example: Banyan Works

Here is the fictional company Banyan Works, calculated with the Pythagorean number table. Each word is reduced separately, then the words are added and reduced.

WordLetters → valuesTotalReduced
BANYANB2 A1 N5 Y7 A1 N5213
WORKSW5 O6 R9 K2 S1235
Trading EX3 + 5 = 88

Totalling every letter at once gives 44 → 8, so both reduction orders agree.

Now add the legal suffixes:

Suffix wordLetters → valuesTotalReduced
PRIVATEP7 R9 I9 V4 A1 T2 E5371
LIMITEDL3 I9 M4 I9 T2 E5 D4369
PVTP7 V4 T2134
LTDL3 T2 D499
LLCL3 L3 C399

The results for each form of the name:

Name usedCalculationEX
Banyan Works3 + 5 = 88
Banyan Works Private Limited3 + 5 + 1 + 9 = 18 → 99
Banyan Works Pvt Ltd3 + 5 + 4 + 9 = 21 → 33
Banyan Works LLC3 + 5 + 9 = 17 → 88

The same business produces three different Expression numbers. That is the practical reason to decide your convention first. Note also that "Pvt" totals 13, a karmic debt compound at word level. Some practitioners flag this; others only check the final total.

The Y in "Banyan" is counted as a consonant, as NumberTeller does, so it is not part of the Soul Urge. Expression counts every letter regardless.

Founder alignment

Once you have the company number, compare it with the founder's core chart. The founder's Life Path is usually the most important point of comparison, followed by their Expression number.

Our fictional founder is Tanvi Nair, born 12 April 1991.

  • Birthday: 12 → 3.
  • Life Path: day 12 → 3; month 4; year 1991 → 20 → 2. Then 3 + 4 + 2 = 9.
  • Full-digit check: 1+2+0+4+1+9+9+1 = 27 → 9. Both methods agree.
  • Expression: TANVI 21 → 3; NAIR 24 → 6; 3 + 6 = 9.

The legal name "Banyan Works Private Limited" (EX 9) mirrors her Life Path and Expression. The abbreviated "Pvt Ltd" form (EX 3) mirrors her Birthday. The trading name (EX 8) is a different energy altogether.

How you read these depends on your friendship table. Some practitioners prefer the company to match the founder. Others prefer a complementary number that supplies what the founder lacks. Both views are found in practice. State which approach you use.

Industry fit

Many practitioners also consider whether the company number suits the type of business. The associations below are traditional ones found across Pythagorean practice. They are not rules, and schools vary.

NumberTraditional associationsIndustries often linked
1Leadership, initiative, originalityStart-ups, innovation, consulting
2Partnership, diplomacy, detailMediation, HR, counselling services
3Expression, creativity, communicationMedia, design, entertainment
4Structure, reliability, systemsConstruction, engineering, accounting
5Change, movement, varietyTravel, sales, marketing, events
6Care, responsibility, homeHealthcare, education, hospitality
7Analysis, research, depthResearch, technology, specialist advisory
8Authority, finance, scaleFinance, property, large enterprises
9Service, completion, broad reachCharities, global trade, the arts

Present these as one input among several. An 8 company in a caring profession is not "wrong". It may simply suggest a strong commercial backbone behind a service.

Partners (2–5 partners)

When a business has several partners, the question changes. You are no longer matching one chart; you are looking at a group.

Step 1: Calculate each partner's core numbers

Banyan Works has three fictional partners:

PartnerDate of birthLife Path workingLPEX
Tanvi Nair12 Apr 19913 + 4 + 2 = 999
Farhan Shah8 Oct 19928 + 1 + 3 = 12 → 333
Rhea Desai6 Dec 19886 + 3 + 8 = 17 → 887

Farhan's year: 1992 → 21 → 3; month 10 → 1. Rhea's month: 12 → 3; year 1988 → 26 → 8. Farhan's Expression: FARHAN 30 → 3; SHAH 18 → 9; 3 + 9 = 12 → 3. Rhea's Expression: RHEA 23 → 5; DESAI 20 → 2; 5 + 2 = 7.

Step 2: Look for patterns, not a single score

With two to five partners, look for:

  • Shared numbers: Tanvi's 9 and Farhan's 3 sit together in many friendship tables.
  • Missing energies: no partner has a 4 as Life Path, Expression or Birthday, which may suggest the team should watch systems and process.
  • Company-to-partner links: the trading name's 8 matches Rhea's Life Path.

Some practitioners also add the partners' Life Paths for a "group number". Here 9 + 3 + 8 = 20 → 2. Treat this as supplementary. It is not a substitute for reading each relationship. For pair-by-pair analysis, see our guide to compatibility readings.

Step 3: Do not single out one partner

Never imply one partner is "bad" for the business. Present the group as a set of strengths with areas to manage.

Presenting to corporate clients

Corporate clients expect a professional, document-led service. A few practices help:

  • Lead with your conventions. State which name form you used and why, and how you reduce.
  • Show the working. A table for each name builds trust and lets the client follow your logic.
  • Separate findings from options. Present the analysis first, then any suggested name variants.
  • Keep it practical. Rebranding has real costs. Often the most useful advice is which form of the name to use on letterheads, signage or the website.
  • Respect the decision. A change to a registered company name is a business and legal decision. It belongs to the client.

Key points

  • Decide whether the trading name or legal name is primary, and document it.
  • Suffixes such as "Private Limited", "Pvt Ltd" and "LLC" can change the Expression number.
  • Compare the company number with the founder's Life Path and Expression.
  • Industry associations are traditional guidance, not fixed rules.
  • With several partners, look for shared and missing numbers rather than one verdict.

Frequently asked questions

Should "Private Limited" be included in the calculation?

It depends on your convention. Many practitioners calculate the trading name as primary and show the legal form as a secondary reading.

What if the founder and company numbers clash?

Clashes are information, not failure. Discuss how the founder can work with the company's energy before suggesting any change.

Do I use Soul Urge for companies?

Some practitioners do, to describe a brand's inner motivation. It is optional; if you use it, apply your Y convention consistently.

If you prepare business reports regularly, software such as NumberTeller's business numerology tool can apply these rules the same way for every company. Know the method yourself, so you can check any result. For personal names, see name correction with the Pythagorean method.
